Last Man Standing Stands Again

A while back the show was ditch amid much furore. Now it’s been announced that’s it’s coming back to screens.

The show has been around since 2011/2012, with all seasons currently available for purchase in the UK iTunes store (which I’m hoping to acquire as soon as my cash situtation improves to end my bad luck streak catching it).

Don’t miss it if you prefer watching TV shows made for people with a brain.

The return of Roseanne

You’ve probably already seen it in the media, but the show recently returned to our screens.

I used to watch it when I was younger, and now it’s back after an almost 21-year break (last episode apparently aired in May 1997).

I’m just hoping that the new episodes + the back catalog of old series makes it onto the UK iTunes store so I actually get to watch more than just the preview clips I’ve had to make do with so far: With what’s listed in Amazon’s DVD section it’s hard to tell what’s Region2 and what’s a Region1 import, and putting them on iTunes alongside “Home Improvement”, “Seinfeld”, “Friends” + “Last Man Standing” would make it easier to watch.

But what I have seen does look kind of promising compared to what’s been on our screens since it was last on the air all those years ago

AlltheInterweb Food is now refreshed

Back in March 2014 I created a Food & Drink messageboard forum section on AlltheInterweb.

Having left it a bit untouched the last couple of years, on Sunday (21st January 2018) I set about re-building it to make it look a bit more appealing than the previous design.

There’s still a bit more to do, but AlltheInterweb Food is hopefully going to start looking and getting better for people looking for or wanting to share their recipes on the forum.

There’s even a new Search Facility on the site.

AlltheInterweb Goes Virtual…..

Since the Summer of 2017 (about end of June, I think) the site has started to make it’s presence felt on the old online virtual world known as “Second Life” in the form of a patch of land and some store rentals to experiment with affiliate sales on there.

I even created a Subsite on AlltheInterweb to support it, which you can find by CLICKING HERE.

The experiment with the patch of land could be going better, as neighbouring land owners who came onto the patches of land next to mine have totally f***ed-up the view from my patch that spurred me to buy the damn place.

The experiment with the store rentals is going a little bit better, but nowhere near enough to what I hoped yet.

If you’re into the game too, why not drop by “AlltheInterweb Virtual Product Stores” at Business ParkGloryland + Kuredhu?

Prem-I-Air 12-inch High Velocity Air Circulator

For a number of years after my Grandma popped her clogs, we had the use of her old Tefal Deskfan to keep us cool in our house during the warmer days.

Unfortunately last year that fan ceased to work too. Well, it still worked but the plastic used in it’s construction went off, got all brittle, had chunks fall off it, and the wire mesh fell off the front of it after the plastic no longer held on it via tension ‘cos a piece fell off.

I fixed it best I could with aluminium flashing tape, but then my Dad knocked it off again, and tried fixing it himself….. but as usual he lost patience with it, and smashed it up in a temper.

As the weather was starting to become uncomfortable again by the end of May, a search for a replacement was in order.

I opted for this Prem-i-Air High Velocity Air Circulator on the basis I already had one of their tower fans for a number of years, so that’s what I went for seeing as it was only £30.

It comes ready assembled in it’s own stand, and tilts on a click-wratchet system so it stays put and takes some effort to knock it out of position.

There’s a dial switch on the top-right of the fan that adjusts the speed: Off > Full Blast > Medium > Low

The rate it moves air given by the manufacturer is given in metric, but I worked out it translates to around 575cfm, and it’s supposed to blow air at around just slightly under the speed that would qualify as a Force3 on the Beaufort Scale.

The fan is fairly noisy, but no worse than an electric lawnmower or the average kitchen extractor hood.

Overall it’s a good buy, good value for money, well made, and works well at it’s intended job of keeping you cool.

I made an unboxing video, but as my computer recently went tits-up and I had to buy a replacement pc, I haven’t had chance to get it off the camera yet, let alone edit it + upload it to Youtube, I’ll add it here later I guess.

How to make money online by blogging

If you’re reading this, you may already know what a blog is. If not, then a blog can be used to write a personal diary or as a platform to write online articles similar to the kind of thing that’ve been appearing in Newspapers & Magazines for years.

Many people do this, and don’t earn s***, probably because they aren’t that fussed about earning from their blog, but in other cases they just don’t really know how to do it properly, or they just don’t put the effort in.

There are other people who do this, who claim to make $1000’s doing it, and even write books to boast about it and tell other people how to go about doing it. I’ve had a flick through many of these books recently, and they pretty much all say the same thing without being maybe as truly helpful as they could.

There are even people who have become millionaires from blogging, and it may be possible for you to do the same, but you’ll have a hell of alot of work ahead of you laying the foundation stones to be able to get there.

If you want to have a go at this yourself, you will need the following things:

1) An idea about what you want to write about, think of a topic that you’re actually interested in, know about enough to not look like a moron when you’re writing about it, and have the willpower to write about on a regular basis.

Most of these books about blogging suggest trying to find a specific niche on the topic to write about, but not one so weird there’d be a very limited people wanting to read it. For instance “How to make money blogging” is probably more likely to attract readers than “How to make money by giving elephants nipple piercings”.

2) Energy….. if you’re totally knackered you’re gonna have quite a struggle engaging your brain to assemble words to use in your blog posts in a way that makes sense, if any at all.

3) Time… let’s face it, writing takes a while to do…… but you can also write a crapload of blogs at once (providing you don’t over-burden yourself to the point you get bits of them mixed up), and set the blog website to release them to the world at a set time if needs be.

4) A blogging platform…. there are numerous options, with Free WordPressBlogger/Blogspot + WordPress hosted via paid webhosting among the most popular.

5) Advertising to make money from your blog posts by monetising them. The most popular choices are Google AdSense + Amazon Associates, which I’ve also found to be the most reliable for payouts.

6) SEO & PPC Advertising Skills, to bring people to your blog to click on the adverts that will earn you money.

SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimisation”, and is the dark art of tweaking your website to play nicely with the search engine robots when they come to visit your website to gather information to add your pages to the listings on the various Search Engines.

PPC stands for “Pay Per Click”, and is a form of advertising where the owner of the pages an advert is displayed on gets paid when someone clicks on it. Just as you need it to earn money on your own pages, you also need to run adverts through it to display adverts to your blog site on other people’s websites to bring people to your site in the hopes they will click on your adverts.

There are popular options including Google AdWords, Facebook Ads + Bing Ads. It can cost from as little as a tenner a month, through to well over $300/£300+ a month.

7) Social Media accounts to promote the blog and lure people in to read your content. All the usual suspects: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, etc.

8) Software, to make running the blog more painless & look more professional…….. you may want to consider graphics software, image editing software, video editing software + SEO Software for starters.

If you liked this article, check out our one on Youtubing, which you can use to earn an extra stream of online cash alongside your Blog.

Also, don’t forget to share the crap out of this article using the buttons below if you found it useful.

The way the Instagram app is now is kind of annoying me. When I first put it on my newer phone (Nokia Windows 8.1 thingy), the stuff people I followed posted popped up on the front page as they posted it.

Now they seem to have changed it to show hi-lighted stuff that’s like “1 day ago” “1 Week ago”, “4 days ago”, etc….. it’d be faster to keep up with what they’re doing if they took a polaroid instant print and sent it to me via carrier pigeon.

Too much of a pain in the butt to go to individual profiles to keep up (Especially if like me you follow 85 profiles) + the linky thing on the profiles in the WindowsPhone version of the app is very small text placed very close to the “edit app” button, so is pretty hard to tap on accurately unless you’ve got fingers like Edward Scissorhands…….

Nokia Lumia 530 – Quick review

I bought one of these things last year, as my old iPhone 3GS had run into a few technical gremlins that were starting to piss me off. For starters the sound had quit working when it rang + the power button had fallen off. Also I couldn’t use the latest Apps on it ‘cos of the age of the OS on it.

When I bought it, the Nokia Lumia 530 was still selling for around £69, but could be picked up for around £40 if you weren’t too fussy about the case colour. I largely bought it ‘cos of the price + I thought the Windows interface looked craploads better than the newer iOS interface. I ended up with a lurid green cased one.

The smooth rounding of the case makes this phone a rather slippery sucker, and all too easy to drop / accidently smash yourself in the face with it while tinkering with it in bed.

It uses a Nano-SIM, which means I couldn’t transfer my number over to it, and being on Vodafone Pay-as-you-Go making it more seriously awks still.

But at least unlike an iPhone, it has a slot inside the case for a Micro-SD card. The 64GB Micro-SD card I bought for it wouldn’t work, so I’ve started using that in my SatNav instead, and I’ve started using a 32GB Kingston Micro-SD card instead which works fine. Removing the case to insert that + the SIM card is a fairly simple job of holding the top corner of the screen while pushing against the camera lens.

The phone didn’t come with a USB to synch music or charge it, but came with a funny looking mains charger with a collapsible earth pin.

Windowsphones generally get slagged off for not having as great a number of apps for them as iOS or Android devices, but you’ll find apps for the things the cool kids hang out on: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine (shit), Tinder, Amazon Kindle, Candy Crush, Blackberry Messenger, Skype, etc.

Battery life, generally needs charging every 24-48hrs.

Worth getting if you need a cheap smartphone to take places you’d rather not take your expensive one, or want a smartphone but don’t want to auction off a kidney in order to be able to afford one.

How to cook Egg Noodles in a Microwave

This is actually easier than it sounds. Normally you boil them in a pan of water for about 3-5minutes.

To do this in a microwave, all you need is…….

1) A Packet of dried Egg Noodles (e.g. Blue Dragon brand)

2) A Kettle full of boiling water

3) A Pyrex Glass Bowl

4) Some flavourings (optional)

5) A Microwave

Put the kettle on to boil (making sure it has water in it), place the nest of noodles in the bottom of the bowl.

At this stage you can add your flavourings to make the noodles more interesting. I like to use curry powder to make curried noodles, but you can also put things like a generous nob of butter, maybe some Oregano…. anything you can think of. You can even Bisto gravy granules to turn the dish into “Noodles in Gravy”, or stock cubes too, though they tend to be a bit salty.

Pour enough boiling water over the noodles to cover them (that’s why you use a bigger bowl for this), and place them in the microwave.

Cook them in the microwave at all power for 3mins 30secs.

Once done, lift the bowl out of the microwave (it’ll be hot), and use a fork to pluck the noodles out of the bowl and to the plate or cereal bowl or whatever you’re serving them in/on.

Idiots guide to dabbling in Forex

Forex is short for “Foreign Exchange”, and is basically swapping over currency from one country for one from another – For instance swapping your British Pounds (GBP / £) for US Dollars (USD / £), like you may do when going on Holiday (Vacation), or in this instance for investing purposes.

For investing purposes, this is basically done by taking advantage of changes in value for the currency over the passage of time. Thanks to the same technology you’re using to read this article, you can keep tabs on it via the internet at a dedicated Foreign Exchange website.

In order to do it for the purposes of investing you will need the following:

  1. Knowledge of what you’re letting yourself in for. If you want to be successful at any kind of investing, you need to get your geek on, and do craploads of reading to learn how it works. If you jump into investing without knowing what you’re doing, you’re going to get your ass kicked (as the Americans say). For that, you may want to consider a couple of books such as Currency Trading for Dummies (among others)
  2. A customer account with an investing broker that allows you to do Forex Investing.
  3. Some money to invest….. most the brokers I’ve seen who allow you to do Forex require a minimum £200 – £300 for your first investment. If you can’t afford to lose it, you may want to consider a different sort of investment.
  4. Research of what’s happening in the market, such as the Currency Heatmaps at Digital Look (I always have trouble finding them again).
  5. Practice via an online fantasy investing game such as what was available at the now defunct Bullbearings (that’s the one I’d been using for at least 10years now) so you can get the hang of what you’re doing without pissing any real money up the wall by making rookie investing mistakes (and trust me, you WILL make mistakes).

Review: DIY for Dummies

This review is for the Kindle preview version of DIY for Dummies.

Well it’s not bad as a DIY book, just not quite as good as the trusty old “Reader’s Digest” + “Collins” DIY manuals that have long been the go-to book for most British DIY’ers.

Found the suggested tools list a bit questionable, like it seems to suggest mole-grips pliers… but doesn’t mention the other types you also need (regular, longnose + sidecutters) for doing tasks that require more finesse than working on pipes, etc.

Also it suggests buying a neon mains tester as part of your toolkit. If you poke around on a certain well known video sharing website called Youtube at the channels of “PhotonicInduction” + “John Ward” (among a handful of others) you’ll see why you’d have to be a Dummy at DIY to use one…

Otherwise the rest of the book seems alright

How to use AlltheInterweb Pixels to promote your website

This part of our site is ideal for promoting your website via banner / link exchange by posting it to one of our grids, and is based on the Million Dollar Homepage, a Pixel Advertising website created by Alex Tew a number of years back.

In order to place your advert on the website……
1) Create an account so you can create & edit your advert(s)

2) Click the Get Pixels link at the top of the page.

3) Click the “Buy Pixels” button associated with the particular grid you want to place your advert on

4) Click & Drag on the area you want to place your advertising image on, the area you select doesn’t have to be the size of your image (e.g. standard 768×90, 468×60, 300×300, 300×250 advertising banners), as the script that makes this site work will scale it down to the size of the grid area you selected automatically upon completion of your order…………. Then click “Continue”

5) Select or Upload your image

6) Fill out the information requested to link the advertising image back to your website.

7) After that it’s pretty self explainatory… any payments will be processed via Paypal, or if you selected the Freebie Pixels grid, select one of our advertising banners from the Link to Us page by copy & pasting the HTML code into the webpage you’re linking your banner advert to.

8) After your advert gets activated, it will be displayed on our website for 90 days and will be shown via the following URLs on AlltheInterweb & our sister websites……

Best movies of the 1990’s

After the booming 80’s came the 1990’s, and more great movies, and here they are…..

1) Star Wars: Episode1: The Phantom Menace (1999)…. just when you thought Star Wars was done with the original 3 movies, back it came with this, the first of the Prequel trilogy.

2) Star Trek: First Contact (1996)… The 8th(?) of the original 10 `proper` Star Trek movies, and worth it just for the soundtrack alone.

3) Braveheart (1995)… stars Mel Gibson as Scottish hero William Wallace, though it is rather long at 2hrs 58minutes.

4) Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995)… the 3rd and my favourite of the Die Hard movies.

5) Backdraft (1991)…. Ron Howard movie about 2 brothers in the Chicago Fire Department

6) Home Alone (1990)… the original and best of the Home Alone films, with Macaulay Culkin as Kevin.

7) Back to the Future: Part III (1990)…. the 3rd and final Back to the Future movie, this time set in the Wild West, in 1885.

10) Flight of the Intruder (1991)…. a maybe somewhat under-rated film, about the crew of a Grumman A-6 Intruder tactical bomber onboard a US Navy Aircraft carrier during the Vietnam war.

11) The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992).. a Muppets version of the story of Scrooge.

12) Arachnophobia (1990)… story about a small town in America that gets over run with deadly little spiders.

13) Forest Gump (1994)… Tom Hanks film about the life of Forest Gump, a not too bright guy who lucks his way to success.

14) Apollo 13 (1995)… a Ron Howard movie, starring Tom Hanks, following the tale of moon mission Apollo 13, which went a bit wrong, but they safely made it back.

15) Days of Thunder (1990)… stars Tom Cruise as a NASCAR driver.

16) The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991)… Leslie Neilson, returning as Detective Frank Drebin…. the 2nd of The Naked Gun movies based on the Police Squad tv series.

17) Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)… the 2nd of the `proper` Home Alone movies, and the last with Macauley Culkin as Kevin.

18) Men in Black (1997)… first of the Men in Black films with Will Smith.

19) Mrs Doubtfire (1993)… stars Robin Williams as a Divorced Dad who tries to spend more time with his kids by dressing up as an old lady to act as their babysitter.

20) Beverley Hills Cop 3 (1994).. the 3rd and so far final adventure for Eddie Murphy as Detective Axl Foley, a Detroit Cop who takes his investigation to Los Angeles.

How to get started Youtubing

This popular video site sharing website has been around for over 10 years now, and gone from short crappy quality clips of pets & people doing the sort of stuff you’d see on You’ve Been Framed, to High quality HD footage of the same stuff + even people having a crack at doing their own “Online TV Shows”.

These range from things like Tech Reviews to DIY Electronics + Prank Shows, some of which are better than mainstream shows like Beadle’s About or Candid Camera managed to pull off.

There seems to be more & more people wanting to have a crack at it (not just because you can earn money online by Youtubing), but not quite sure how to get started, so lets see what I can do to help……….

The first thing you’ll need is a camera. It doesn’t have to be anything too special, but basically helps if you use pretty much any camera made in the last 7yrs or so that’s capable of recording in 720p or 1080p High Definition (HD).

A Digital SLR Camera (DSLR) or a “Bridge” camera is likely to be too big & heavy to lug around if vLogging (video blogging) on the move like Roman Atwood (and others) do on a regular basis, and you’re best off with either a Digital Compact camera, or a small handheld video camera such as from the Sony Bloggie range, and their equivalents from other manufacturers such as Panasonic.

A proper camcorder such as my Panasonic is acceptable and not too bad to carry around with you all day too (and the quality is quite stunning).

My long time favourite for digital compact cameras is Fujifilm, but last time I looked it appeared they’d slimmed their range down to a selection of “Bridge” cameras + some very expensive compact system cameras with interchangable lenses. They’ve got exceedingly good colour reproduction qualities though.

Most the top Youtubers appear to be using Canon + Sony Digital Compacts at the moment, and GoPro cameras for when things get a bit more sweat inducing, such as ziplining or messing about in water.

The next stage (assuming you’ve already set-up your youtube account), is to shoot some video…. that’s easy enough, just point the camera at want you want to film, and press the record button, etc.

After that, you’ll probably want to edit the video, and for that you’ll need video editing software. Some of this you can get for free (e.g. Windows Movie Maker), other higher end software can end up costing you as much as the camera did. If you’re a Mac user, you’ll probably be using iMovie. For Windows users like myself, my current personal favourite is Corel VideoStudio Pro X5, which has been succeeded by a number of newer versions, it’s up to VideoStudio Pro X8 now I think. You can buy it either as a standalone product, or bundled together with my favourite photo editing software Corel Paintshop Pro X*.

Editing isn’t really too complicated if you’ve never done it before, it’s basically just a matter of dropping the video file onto the timeline at the bottom of the software, and adding the various bits & bobs like captions as and where needed.

When you’ve finished editing, you’ll need to save the finished video file, then wait for it to start rendering. This may take a while, and it helps if you’ve got a fair bit of RAM installed in your computer….. it’ll do it, but very slowly if you’ve got the minimum 2GB of RAM needed to run Windows… and it’s best to have at least 4GB of RAM installed, and perhaps even make use of Windows ReadyBoost.

Once done, you can then start uploading the video to Youtube. This also takes what feels like forever. While that’s in progress you can add a video title, keyword tags, opt to monetise the vid (if you’ve enabled that) + put a place tag on a map to show where you shot it (though you may want to give that a miss in some circumstances).

And that’s got you started Youtubing, I hope.

Though there’s still more to do yet… you may want to gain followers & views on Youtube by promoting your video via other Social Media outlets such as Twitter + Facebook + Instagram (among others), and collaborations with other Youtubers via sites such as ChannelPages, and checking your Video Stats via Youtube + elsewhere.

How to deal with school bullies

This has been going on since…. probably since schools were first invented.

The recommended method if you’re being targetted  generally goes along the lines of:
1) Tell a parent or teacher in good detail what’s been happening (this is the modern day recommended method by 1960’s/1970’s hippies who grew-up and got jobs as teachers…. it doesn’t usually work, but at least covers your ass if you have to resort to stage3).

2) If parent or teacher actually does something about it, bullies tend to keep a low profile for a few weeks before kicking off again because you told on them, in which case resort to…..

3) Beat the crap out of the bully, or find a few bigger kids to do the honours, then they usually finally start getting the message it isn’t a good idea to screw with you, and leave you alone. (this is the time honoured method recommended by the poor long suffering parents of the 1960’s/1970’s hippies, and actually works)

Vine sucks

Vine is a social media site for posting short vids from your mobile devices.

I’ve decided I absolutely hate it with a passion you cannot imagine based purely on the fact the videos immediately AutoPlay, complete with sound, which is “seriously awks” when randomly looking through it via your WindowsPhone from bed, forgetting where the volume is set to: Resulting in a mini heart attack as you’re subjected to a loud burst of shit music you cant get out of your fucking head (followed by a pissy mood because this happened.

Seriously, if you want to post vids online, stick to Youtube.

Regional Flavours

It is often said that girl’s thingies might smell of fish & taste of chicken, but what if they were regional flavoured?

If you chowed down on a Geordie Lass, would it taste of Newcastle Brown Ale?

If you chowed down on a girl from Norfolk, would it taste of Colman’s English Mustard?

Or would one from Boston (MA) in the USA taste of Clam Chowder?

Got any ideas for more possible flavours? Stick ’em in the box (the comments box, that is)……….
